ANNOUNCEMENT OF BCA ENDORSEMENTS. <\/b>BCA members voted for endorsements last week. <\/b>Please note that BCA endorses when 60% of the members vote for or against a position. Here are the results:<\/span><\/p>\n

ALAMEDA COUNTY<\/b><\/p>\n

Alameda County District Attorney<\/b>: <\/span>Pamela Price<\/b><\/a>. <\/span>BCA endorsed<\/b> by 69% of the members. She is running against incumbent Terry Wiley, who has strong endorsements, prosecuted the Oakland PD\u2019s abusive Riders. Rent Stabilization Board Commissioners: <\/b>The <\/span>Right to Housing slate<\/b><\/a> selected by the Berkeley Tenant Convention is BCA endorsed:\u00a0 <\/span>Soli Alpert<\/b><\/a>, <\/b>Vanessa Danielle Marrero<\/b><\/a>, <\/b>Nathan Mizell<\/b><\/a>, and <\/b>Negeene Mosaed<\/b><\/a>, who all received more than the 60% threshold, plus <\/span>Ida Martinac<\/b><\/a> who earned approval from 58% of the members.<\/span><\/p>\n

BERKELEY MEASURES<\/b><\/p>\n

Measure L, No Position:\u00a0 Housing and Infrastructure Bond<\/b>: BCA members were tied for support and opposition. Steering Committee recommended a<\/span> NO Position<\/b><\/a>. <\/b>This measure would sell $650 million in general obligation bonds to be issued over a 48-years to build affordable housing, repair streets & sidewalks, underground utilities on evacuation routes, improve buildings, infrastructure, and safety.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The BCA Steering Committee recommends a NO Position.<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Measure M, <\/b>YES. <\/b>Vacancy Tax<\/b><\/a>, AKA The \u201cEmpty Homes\u201d tax was recommended by 91% of BCA members who voted.<\/b><\/p>\n

Would create financial penalties to discourage landlords from keeping rental units off the market and provide revenue to build \u201caffordable\u201d housing.<\/span><\/p>\n

Caution: Funds can be used for any general municipal services designated by the Council.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Measure N, <\/b>YES.\u00a0 <\/b>Authorizing Affordable Housing Expenditures: <\/b>R<\/span>ecommended by 87% of the members<\/b>. A racist 1950 law requires voter approval for all publicly financed housing. Measure N would meet that requirement for future subsidized housing in Berkeley. Until the state appeals this law, we must provide this approval to meet our affordable housing targets.<\/span><\/p>\n

Prop 1, <\/b>YES. <\/b>Constitutional Right to Abortion and Birth Control:<\/b> 94% of BCA members recommend a YES Vote<\/span><\/p>\n

Prop 26, No position. In Person Sports Betting: <\/b>\u00a0The proposition did not reach the 60% threshold for endorsement<\/span><\/p>\n

Prop 27, <\/b>NO. <\/b>Online Sports Betting: <\/b>\u00a084% of BCA members recommend a NO Vote<\/span><\/p>\n

Prop 28, <\/b>YES.<\/b> Arts Education Set Aside $$:<\/b>\u00a0 97% of BCA members recommend a YES Vote<\/span><\/p>\n

Prop 29, <\/b>YES. <\/b>Kidney Dialysis: <\/b>\u00a081% of BCA members recommend a YES Vote<\/span><\/p>\n
