\nThat is\u00a0because\u00a0of\u00a0a new\u00a0state\u00a0law,\u00a0SB9.<\/p>\n

Now,\u00a0a\u00a0developer\u00a0can\u00a0buy\u00a0your\u00a0house\u00a0or\u00a0the house next door,
\ndivide the\u00a0lot\u00a0in\u00a0half\u00a0and\u00a0put in\u00a08\u00a0apartments,
\nNone would be affordable housing, all market rate;
\nnot\u00a0housing for\u00a0working\u00a0people\u00a0or the homeless.
\nYes, we need\u00a0more housing but smart\u00a0housing,\u00a0not profiteering.<\/p>\n

Berkeley has\u00a0a limited\u00a0land area\u00a0and\u00a0is\u00a0densely populated.<\/p>\n

We\u00a0must\u00a0think of\u00a0fire hazards, increased\u00a0traffic, decreased parking,\u00a0the loss\u00a0of trees\u00a0and\u00a0open space,\u00a0increased\u00a0heat absorbing\u00a0concrete,\u00a0the\u00a0need\u00a0for\u00a0more\u00a0water, sewers,\u00a0electricity.\u00a0We\u00a0need\u00a0to\u00a0be green!<\/p>\n

The\u00a0City\u00a0would\u00a0not\u00a0be\u00a0able\u00a0to\u00a0give input.
\nYes, we need\u00a0more housing but smart\u00a0housing,\u00a0not profiteering.<\/p>\n

The demands\u00a0by the\u00a0state for increased housing in Berkeley
\nis\u00a0based\u00a0on\u00a0data that\u00a0EXCLUDES\u00a0existing\u00a0student housing
\nbut\u00a0INCLUDES\u00a0students\u00a0as\u00a0population.\u00a0It\u00a0doesn’t make sense.<\/p>\n
